Open DNS...

Steve has a nice post about OpenDNS, an alternative DNS provider aiming to provide a quicker name resolution service.  It also has built in phishing capabilities.

One thing I did notice was that I'm pointing to one of their US DNS servers (they have a London based one coming soon for us Brits) and it's still quicker than my old one.

I can honestly say, I just tried and it and, thanks Steve, it is faster than my ISP anyway.  Defintely worth a try, instructions on their site here...

Gravatar That's a good question Steve, and something I also thought about.

I will investigate...

Gravatar What kind of security concerns did you mean? What questions do we need to answer more thoroughly?

Gravatar John,

Not sure really, I suppose I'm just naturally curious...

I did read http://dready.org/blog/item/70/ though, some interesting points raised, also some good answers.

Hmm, seems like a single point of failure to me, one that could be target to attack if a big enough user base started using it. Using my ISP dns even without running a local caching dns is fast. Sure faster than hitting a server on the other side of the atlantic.
